“Hey, sleepy. You need to eat something.” A warm hand caresses my face as I open my eyes. Xavier is sitting on the bed with a sandwich on the plate he is holding. As if on cue, my stomach rumbles.

I ease my sore body up to a sitting position and gratefully take the food from him. Taking a bite, I savor the delicious flavors. Greedily, I eat quickly.

When I finish, I look up to see Xavier smiling at me. “What?” I wipe my hand across my face, thinking that I must have something on it. This is when I notice it is dark outside. I must have slept for at least a few hours.

“Just happy to see you eat. You will need the energy for training tomorrow.” My muscles ache just from his words. I like to think I am tough, but I don’t think I can handle another day like today. “We will be at the range tomorrow, it should be a less taxing day. I know today was a lot, and I'd like to give your body a chance to recover a little.”

Sometimes I wonder if I say my thoughts out loud since he can read me so well, but I guess that is just a likely skill he learned in his line of work.

He moves to get up, but I reach out and grab his arm. “Wait.” He raises an eyebrow at me. “Will you stay here tonight?” I don’t want sex. Well, I guess that's not the total truth. I always want sex, but I don’t think my body could handle any more today. I want his comfort. I’m worried the dream I had last night will come back.

He continues to get up and my heart cracks a little. I thought our relationship was moving in a new direction, but I guess I was wrong. Maybe it is just going to take him a little longer to arrive at the conclusions I have made.

The lights turn off and then I see him making his way back to the bed. He pulls me into his chest. The warmth of his body radiates into mine as I drift to sleep.
